It was with great pleasure and anticipation that I joined the SensiLab at Monash this week, appointed as a Professor of Computational Creativity. In the AI subfield of Computational Creativity, we study how to hand over creative responsibilities to software in arts and science projects, covering practical implementations, theoretical frameworks – especially addressing how we can assess progress in the field – and philosophical investigations of what it means for software to be genuinely creative.
